Toronto police say they have arrested and charged a man in connection to an arson investigation after several cars were torched at the home of a Scarborough MP last week.

In a news release issued Friday, police said Roshvin Crofton, 24, was arrested and charged with arson causing damage to property, mischief over $5,000, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, possession of incendiary material, and failure to comply with probation order.

Police say they arrested and charged the man on Sunday. A vehicle believed to be involved in the incident was also seized.

Police say they are searching for a second suspect.

The alleged arson occurred in the driveway of Liberal MP Salma Zahid’s home.

Toronto police are investigating a suspected arson at the home of a Liberal Member of Parliament. Multiple cars on Salma Zahid’s driveway were set on fire overnight. The Scarborough MP says the incident has left her shaken and worried about the safety of her family and staff. CBC’s Greg Ross takes us through what happened.

Zahid, a Liberal backbencher, has been an MP for Scarborough Centre-Don Valley East since 2015. She currently chairs the standing committee on science and research and is the vice-chair of the Canada-China legislative association.

The incident drew ire from numerous politicians, including Prime Minister Mark Carney.
