‘WestJet left me here,’ says passenger in Lisbon

A woman from Miramichi, N.B., says she’s stranded in Lisbon.

“WestJet left me here and I have no way to get a hold of them,” Marsha Manuel told CBC New Brunswick on Tuesday.

Her flight was supposed to be this morning, she said, but she received an email Monday that it had been cancelled and would be rebooked in a few hours.

“That didn’t happen,” Manuel said from downtown Lisbon.

She tried calling the airline all day yesterday, she said, but couldn’t get through. After waiting two and a half hours on hold, she finally connected that night with an agent — only to have the phone cut off. She called back and was looking at a five-hour wait.

“That was at 1 a.m., so I decided to go to bed. I was too tired.”

Manuel said when she tried to call this morning, she was looking at a seven-hour wait on hold.

“So we booked the hotel that we’re at for another two nights because we have no idea when we’re going home.”

She says she’s had zero communication with WestJet and no information on meal vouchers or accommodations.
