A wildfire burning in Belcarra Regional Park has drawn significant attention across Metro Vancouver after prompting evacuation measures, recreation-area closures and a large-scale firefighting response near some of the region’s most popular outdoor destinations.
On August 5, 2026, the blaze was first reported in Belcarra Regional Park near Anmore and Port Moody, quickly drawing attention due to its proximity to popular recreation areas. The fire was initially estimated at approximately 0.8 hectares and classified as out of control.
Wildfire Erupts in Belcarra Park

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the wildfire is located roughly one kilometre southeast of the popular beach area on Sasamat Lake, a major destination for swimming, paddling and day trips during the summer months.

Massive Air and Ground Response Underway
Firefighting resources from multiple agencies were deployed to contain the blaze. The response included BC Wildfire Service crews, Metro Vancouver personnel, the Sasamat Fire Department, Port Moody Fire Department, volunteer firefighters and aerial support.
By Wednesday evening, approximately 40 firefighters were engaged in suppression efforts.
Crews initially faced challenges accessing the wildfire directly because energized BC Hydro transmission lines created operational barriers. Helicopters were used extensively to conduct water drops until power was disconnected, allowing firefighters to move in and attack the fire from the ground.
