WestJet’s transformation of its remaining all-economy aircraft, which began after it absorbed ultra-low-cost carriers Swoop and Sunwing, is now complete. With the single-class layouts removed, the interiors now wear a refreshingly new look, unifying the fleet and offering passengers a consistent experience.

What has changed?

Next time you board one of those, in the refreshed cabin you will find  upgraded Premium seating, an expanded Extended Comfort cabin as well as enhanced amenities

Samantha Taylor, WestJet Group Executive Vice-President and Chief Experience Officer, said, “Unifying our narrowbody fleet is an important step in delivering the reliable and welcoming experience our guests and WestJetters expect from us.”

She further adds, “This milestone creates a stronger foundation for our teams to focus on delivering exceptional service and a seamless travel experience for our guests.”

WestJet promised to enhance the travel experience with modern amenities and thoughtful design.

Here’s what has changed in the Premium, Extended Comfort and Economy cabins. New features include:

  • Fast and free WestJet Wi-Fi presented by TELUS
  • Updated headrest with four-way adjustment flexibility
  • Convenient seatback personal phone/tablet holders
  • Modernized charging ports
  • Coat hooks

Other plans in the offing

Starting in September, WestJet will begin refurbishing its legacy narrowbody aircraft with the same enhanced amenities and expanded Extended Comfort cabins now found on its reconfigured planes. About 14 Boeing 737-800s will be upgraded in 2026 alone, with the full rollout wrapping up by the end of 2027.

Exterior updates are also a priority for WestJet’s operations teams, with plans to have the airline’s full narrowbody fleet sporting the signature teal-and-navy livery by the end of 2026.

WestJet rolls out legroom retrofit faster than planned

Alongside its all-economy cabin reconfiguration, WestJet has also restored legroom on its Boeing 737 aircraft that had briefly flown with a denser, 180-seat layout. Originally slated for completion this fall, the retrofit project wrapped up well ahead of schedule, finishing in mid-June.

Every previously affected aircraft is now back in service with 174 seats, alongside a refreshed cabin interior and upgraded amenities, including WestJet Wi-Fi presented by TELUS.

For travellers, this means one thing: whichever WestJet aircraft you step onto next, you can now expect the same elevated, reliable experience.
