Canadian travellers heading south this winter will see more bundled vacation options. Porter Airlines and Air Transat are partnering with new sun destination packages launching for the 2026–27 season.
The move marks one of the more notable shifts in Canada’s leisure travel market as airlines compete aggressively for winter vacation demand.
According to announcements from Transat and Porter, the new vacation packages will roll out from November 1, combining Porter-operated flights with Transat’s hotel and tour-operator network from Toronto, Ottawa and Hamilton.
Initial destinations include Nassau, Grand Cayman, Cancún and Puerto Vallarta.
Why the partnership matters
The partnership goes beyond a standard codeshare arrangement. Travellers booking through Transat can now access Porter’s expanding North American route network while still purchasing a traditional vacation package that includes accommodation and transfers.
For Air Transat, it adds greater flight flexibility at a time when Canadian demand for sun destinations remains strong despite rising travel costs and continued pressure on airline operating expenses. In April, Transat announced the addition of three new sun destinations from Montreal.
“These additions significantly enrich our portfolio of sun destinations,” said Renée Boisvert, Vice President, Travel Products at Transat. “Thanks to our partnership with Porter Airlines, we are expanding our offering with popular destinations like Nassau and George Town, while giving travellers more flexibility to create the perfect trip for their needs.”
For Porter, the agreement strengthens its push into the leisure travel segment after rapidly expanding flights to Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America.
Porter’s onboard experience becomes part of the package
A key differentiator is Porter’s onboard product. Its Embraer E195-E2 aircraft feature a two-by-two seating layout with no middle seats, complimentary snacks and beverages, and free Wi-Fi available on most aircraft.
The airlines are also expanding options on overlapping leisure routes such as Cancún and Puerto Vallarta, where travellers may now choose itineraries operated by either carrier, depending on schedules and package pricing.
A stronger alternative in Canada’s vacation market
While Air Canada and WestJet still dominate much of Canada’s vacation travel sector, the Porter-Transat partnership is emerging as a stronger alternative for travellers seeking more flexible sun packages with a more premium short-haul flying experience.
With winter bookings opening earlier this year, the expanded partnership is expected to increase competition across Canada’s sun travel market heading into 2027.
